I'm able to dynamically add columns (TemplateDataField) to my grid but once I sort on another column, the controls in my template dissapear...
How can these values be persisted through the sorting and filter postback events??

In order to ensure your template controls persist through postback, you would need to add the templated column to the grid in the PreInit event handler.
