Is it possible to add a check box, listbox, button, etc. to table cell? I can visually do this just by placing the item on top of the cell but it's not really part of the cell. When I move or edit the table, the items don't move with them.

Currently we don't support that. If it's important to you, may I suggest adding it as an idea: indigostudio.uservoice.com
As for how you could keep them together the way you mention--just select your grid and the items you have over it and press CTRL+G (Win) or CMD+G (Mac). That will let you treat them as one thing (a group), and then you can just double click to drill in and edit them individually.
