I have created a list using external content type. I can see the list in SharePlus, but am not able to edit it. It works through the browser. I would like to be able to edit the data in disconnected state and then sync back when online again. This is the major reason for trying the pro version. Is it because Sharepoint 2010 uses infopath by default. I can update and add other list items, like tasks and calendar, just not the list created by BCS. It displays detail page each time I select the record.
Hi aarenz,
SharePlus supports external content. When you say you can't edit it, do you mean you can't modify this external content in already existing items while online or offline?
Editing while offline is simply not possible due to the fact that the external data is hosted in another server (or at least is not part of the synced SharePoint list). Being able to edit external content fields would mean SharePlus would have to sync the external content as well and there is no way we can do this at the moment.
I hope this answers your questions.
Feel welcome to post back if I can be of help.
Regards,
The hope for us was to allow users to enter new records into the BSC list and possibly see items that were viewed recently. The main purpose would be for items that are regularly logged such as status sheets or incident types of data. So if they could view and edit data that was recently updated or created by them for their group(minor subset of the whole list), that would be nice.
I do not know how update conflicts would be handled, which may be why this is not supported.
I understand your assumptions. They are reasonable.
The main problem would be accessing the external content data while offline. Since the app is offline and the data is from a sourche which is not in SharePoint, SharePlus would have no way of retrieveing the possible values for these fields. This would be needed in order to create a new list item.
You may be interested in exploring the possibility of a custom implementation of SharePlus. I can have one of our sales agent contact you to discuss this, if you'd like me to.
Best regards,
Would not have a budget for custom development. We will just have to use Windows based netbooks and or tablets for traveling and offline users.
Thanks for your answers.
